The funky shape on the front of this card makes me smile, when I saw it on the sketch I thought I would never be able to find anything close but I think I did alright. This is one of the reasons I adore sketches so much, it makes me go look for fun shapes to use like this. read more
I just love this little fairy! She even got me to break out one of those coveted pieces of paper that I hate to cut into. Ok, I have come to the realization that the paper is so much better if it actually gets used on cards than if it gets hoarded in my paper boxes for that future ‘perfect’ card. It is similar to the cleaning method of reminding myself that ‘Things aren’t memories, memories are memories.’, so if I am holding on to something just because it reminds me of something is silly.
I learnt something new today! That always excites me. It has to do with printer settings for watercolor. I had been setting my printer to the best quality, and having problems with ink smear. No more! Now I have it set to black and white and low quality and I had much better luck today. I am also getting the hang of my markers. Ok, it helps that it’s a day off and I got a decent nights sleep as well.
Oh how I love this little lady! She is just to darling for words. She also just helped get me through being unwell. I talk about using making cards as a form of therapy on here occasionally, well, one form of that just became a big part of how I got through this latest round of being sick. When I have to make my mind focus on something pleasant instead of whatever is happening (stomach flu, MRI, etc) I start thinking about card designs. I think about what sketches I currently have on my plate, paper I have in my to work with pile, stamps to use, anything that I can create with. This little lady was my mental companion the last couple of days, figuring out colors to use and what paper would go best with her. I have a feeling her friends will be joining us soon!
I am still working on mastering heat embossing. Thank you jenn shurkus for the recommendation on the powder tool! Michael’s didn’t have the one you mentioned, so I got the one they had to try out for now, and it at least made things a bit neater. I will have to check Joann’s for the other one, or order it from someplace else. This is where I have to admit that I am a crazy coupon lady when it comes to my crafting. Back when I was a cake maker the rule of thumb was to always utilize the store coupons to build my library of pans, plates, and any other things I needed for my cabinet of go to items. I have just switched up where I am utilizing my coupons. It’s not that I don’t pay full price for anything, it’s just that I have a limited amount to spend and I want to make sure it goes as far as it can. Anyways! I heat embossed my ladybug and she turned out especially lovely. I think I am still getting some stray powder from the blowing action of the heat emboss tool.. I think that might be why people suggest doing it from below instead of above, I will have to try that next. This is another one of my mother’s day cards.
